Family visit to Össur in Iceland
My family visited Össur headquarters in Iceland!
This time of year it’s daylight there basically 24/7. Once I woke up and saw on my watch that it was 10:30 and at first I thought that was a.m.—but then I thought maybe not, hmmm...and I had to look at my phone to figure it out. (Turned out to be p.m.) The sun is dim for about three hours in the early morning, but it’s never dark enough to see the stars. Bizarre. And fascinating!
Anyway, at Össur I got to meet the people who build the prosthetic technology I walk on, including my (amazing) motorized Power Knee. What surprised me most: In this era of automation, I tend to imagine everything is built by factories of robots or whatever. But Power Knee—and my carbon fiber foot—they’re handmade by humans, one screw and one layer of carbon fiber ply at a time.
Legal stuff: Power Knee is a medical device. Safety guidance can be found in the Instructions for Use on Össur’s website.
