Meeting fellow crutch bosses

One of the many delights of performing my one-man show (for 15 months now!) has been the many crutch users who have been in the audience. While the average audience member chuckles uncomfortably at my crutch-related stories and jokes ("wait are we allowed to laugh at that?") fellow crutch bosses actually find the show, you know, funny. Or at least relatable.

Full-time crutch users are actually a pretty rare species to spot in the wild because most amputees wear a prosthesis. Like, you probably walk by amputees every day on the sidewalk without realizing it.

In fact, only one of the people in these photos will likely use crutches for the long-term. The other three are more recent amputees who haven't healed enough from their accident or operation yet to be fitted with an artificial leg.

Anyway, I'm so very honored that the show has been part of that healing process.

P.S. If you look carefully you can see that I've tried three different bright red high-top sneakers on stage in the past year. Searching for that one perfect shoe #cinderella 👟
