1mt1mt: One more thing. One more time.
When Josh was training for the Paralympics, he had a training motto he wrote on the tip of his ski: 1MT1MT. It stands for one more thing, one more time.
Today Josh travels the country showing audiences how his motto applies to all levels of their organization, from customer service to sales to leadership.
There are four principles of 1mt1mt:
- Persistence: Do one more thing than what you planned on doing
- Discipline: Do one more thing than what you feel like doing
- Distinction: Do one more thing than what the competition is willing to do
- Effort: Do one more thing than what is required
Pursuing your uniform
As a boy, Josh dreamed about wearing a soccer team uniform, a dream he lost when his leg was amputated. But then a ski coach told him about the Paralympics, and he found a new uniform to strive for.
Josh helps audiences pursue their uniforms by following these three steps:
1. Identify your uniform
Purpose begins with passion. Chase your passion and your purpose will emerge.2. Define your reasons why
If the "how" of accomplishing your goal seems to large, it may be that the "why" of accomplishing that goal is too small.3. Take action
Motivation without action is a waste. Action without motivation is a routine. But motivation with action is the common denominator of success.
Getting back up
In Josh's first ski race, he fell five times. But he kept getting back up until he crossed the finish line. He shares this and other stories about persistence to help audiences:
Adapt to change
Sometimes the uniform we get is better than the one we thought we wanted.Bounce back from disappointment
Life is not about reaching a certain point by the end, but having a certain purpose along the way.Choose to laugh
Some things that are quite serious are also quite funny. And if you can find the funny parts, the serious parts will become less so.
